Seen / Heard: The Space Between Artist and Audience

Explore the space between artistic intent and audience interpretation in Seen / Heard, a new community conversation series inspired by Jason Lazarus' exhibition underseers. Sparked by a recent act of defacement within the exhibition, this free public program invites the community to engage in thoughtful dialogue about contemporary art, perspective, and respectful conversation.

Moderated by DFAC Curator Danny Olda, the panel features artist Jason Lazarus and Dr. Nashid Madyun, Executive Director of Florida Humanities. Together, they'll examine the relationship between artists and audiences, exploring how context, interpretation, and disagreement can foster deeper understanding rather than division.

As part of the evening, Jason Lazarus will present the public debut of their new essay, Listening for Monuments, a meditation on the growing collection of used doorstops featured in underseers.

Guests are encouraged to experience underseers before or after the discussion and contribute to the exhibition's interactive component by sharing their own reflections. Admission is free, but seating is limited and advance registration is encouraged.
